Hi, I'm Eka — founder of Black Girls Making Friends and A Dose of Travels. I started BGMF in 2019 because I knew exactly how it felt to be in a new city, craving genuine connection, and not knowing where to find it.

What started as a small Facebook group became a 130,000-woman movement — and I couldn't be more proud of every sister who chose to show up, be vulnerable, and build real friendships here.

Is BGMF free to join? ↓
Yes! Joining the BGMF community is completely free. Some special events, girls trips, and retreats have their own costs, but becoming a member and attending local meetups is always free.
How do I find events near me? ↓
Check our Events section above! Events are listed by city. You can also join our newsletter to get notified first when new events drop in your area. If there's no chapter near you yet, consider applying to become a Chapter Leader!
What happens after I RSVP? ↓
After you RSVP, you'll receive a confirmation with all the event details — location, time, what to bring, and what to expect. We'll also send a reminder as the date gets closer. Just show up and be yourself! 🌸
I'm shy — will I fit in? ↓
Absolutely. Most of our members showed up to their first event nervous. Our hosts are intentional about making everyone feel seen and welcomed the moment they walk in. You don't have to be the life of the party — you just have to show up.
Can I bring a friend? ↓
Of course! Bringing a friend is always welcome. Just make sure she RSVPs too so we have an accurate headcount. The more the merrier — as long as everyone's there to genuinely connect. 💜
